Monsoon Wedding

The movie is written by Sabrina Dhawan and directed by the Oscar nominated Mira Nair, the main cast includes Naseeruddin shah, Lillete Dubey, Shefali Shah, Vasundhara Das and Parvin Dabas.The movie is about the father who’s daughter is ready for an arrange marriage in Texas, due to a sudden broke-up with his married ex boyfriend , and consist of all the circumstances that takes place in the four day celebration. The movie gives a summary of the Indian arranged marriage and a glance of the Punjabi and Delhi cultures.

Monsoon Wedding is the story of an upper middle class Verma family; here the father of the bride wants the wedding to be incredible and most fabulous one. The groom is an Indian from Texas, and all the relatives from both the families are coming together from around the globe for the wedding celebration in Delhi. The wedding is to take place in monsoon season and there is a 4 days celebration, with all the celebration done in a traditional and a modern way.

As all the guests from across the globe gather in the wedding, many unusual things take place; like the wedding planner falls in love with the house maid; one day prior to the wedding the bride goes mid-night to meet her ex boyfriend and the brides cousin reveals the truth of her abusement in her past and there is much more to watch in the movie. Other than the incidents in the wedding there are many enjoyable moments like the replication of the Punjabi culture, with a typical and a modern Delhi wedding.

Monsoon wedding has all the aspect of high class Indian wedding like the drama, the Indian pop bhangra, jazz, ghazals, the traditional songs, the bollywood music, the emotions, whisky, the excitement of a wedding and the best Indian food. This wedding movie is reflecting the mixture of the ancient and the modern culture, the Punjabi and the Indian culture with many touchy moments. The movie also features the marigold flower which is an Indian wedding flower, along with the realistic characters.

The movie is a low budget movie of $1.5million, and was completed in duration of 30days with all the real locations of Delhi. Monsoon wedding just earned $30million and was released in 2001 and won the Golden Lion Award .The wedding movie was not a  blockbuster  and didn’t had  mass appeal  but was highly appreciated and acclaimed  by the critics.
