Wedding Cake is the traditional cake served to the guests at a wedding reception after the wedding.

The tradition of serving cakes is admirable because it symbolizes the sweetness, richness, prosperity and love fostered through marriage. Choosing a wedding cake is one of the most enjoyable but difficult task in marriage planning, because it can take time to find right cake and right person to create it. While choosing Wedding Cake, it has to make sure that the cake not only matches the theme and style of the wedding, but it is also the reflection of the marrying couple. The idea of wedding cake is personal and subjective.

The wedding cakes are available in different sizes, shapes and flavors. The size and design of the wedding cake may depend on the size of the wedding budget. Through the design, shape and decoration of the wedding cake, the taste and style of the couple is clearly reflected.

Usually, the wedding cake is huge in size. It may be multi-layered or tiered. Most cakes are between three and five tiers in height. Their bottom tier is often made from sponge, middle tier with a chocolate sponge and top tier with fruit. The wedding cake can be made in various colors and flavors. Some of the preferred flavors are mousse-filled cakes, cheesecakes, fruitcakes, orange mud and chocolate.

There are many things which can be used to decorate the wedding cakes. It is mostly decorated with the help of toppers, icing and flowers. The flowers may be artificial and natural. Wedding cake toppers are nothing but small models that sit on top of the cake. Normally, the cake toppers represent a bride and groom in formal wedding dresses. It symbolizes togetherness.

It is the tradition that the bride and the groom should share the first piece of the cake, after which other guests can share. Sometimes, a piece is preserved so that the couple can share it on their first wedding anniversary.

The color of the cake is typically white as it symbolizes purity.  To cut the cake jointly by bride and the groom is the symbol of their first joint task in married life. Feeding cake to each other is indicates the commitment that the bride and groom are making.

In short, the basic idea or tradition of the wedding cake is to make the wedding occasion memorable which can be appreciated by the couple as well as their friends and loved ones.
